Overview
Harrisburg Adventist School has chosen to use Chromebooks as a cost effective way to provide devices for students. This guide provides guidance on setting up and learning how to use Chromebooks to support their education

Assumptions
The Chromebook is new or has been reset to a “factory fresh” state. If not, follow the procedure to reset a Chromebook.
The student who will use the device has received their email username and password.
The instructions and screen-shot images in this document are subject to change and may not exactly match your experience. This is because different brands of Chromebook and Chrome OS versions may be slightly different.
Resetting a Chromebook to a New or “Factory Fresh” state
Unless the Chromebook is new, any time it is issued to a new person, it should be cleaned of all prior data and settings. This section shows how to accomplish this.

First, be sure you are signed in to the ChromeBook as a Gmail user. NOTE: The Guest user cannot be used to do this procedure. |

Click the time at the bottom right of the screen, then click Settings (the gear icon) on the panel that pops up. |

Click “Advanced” near the bottom left of the settings categories to show more options. |
|
Click on “Reset Settings” |

The process of clearing all data and settings is referred to as “PowerWash” Click the “Reset” button on the panel that pops up on the right to confirm that you want to perform a Powerwash on your Chromebook. |

Click “Restart” to begin the Powerwash reset of the device. |
|
After the Chromebook restarts, you will be asked if you want to proceed with the Powerwash. Click the “Powerwash” button to proceed. |

A final confirmation will be requested. Click the “Continue” button to begin the PowerWash |
Setting up a new Chromebook
Before logging in for the first time

Click the “Lets Go” button near the bottom right. NOTE: A new item has been introduced at the beginning of the setup called “ChromeVox”. It is an accessibility tool that should not be enabled unless the user needs it to compensate for a visual impairment. |

Choose your WiFi Network from the list presented. |

Enter your WiFi Password |

Turn off the System Security Setting to send diagnostic usage in formation to Google Click the “Accept and Continue” button. |
Logging in with your HAS provided Email Address
Enter the email address provided to you by the school. The email address is typically your first name, a period, and your last name followed by @haschool.org e.g. Susy Smith, would be susy.smith@haschool.org |

You are required to choose a new password the first time you log in. Choose a password that:

Check the box titled “Review sync options following setup”, then click the “Accept and Continue” button. |

Check the box that starts with “Back up to Google Drive…”, then click the “Next” button |
|
Check all three boxes on the screen, then click the “Accept” button |
|
The initial setup is now complete. You can click the “Get Started” button, and close the next window that opens. |
Keeping Your Chromebook Up To Date
